About The Department
The Visual Arts and Performing Arts are a major strength of the school. The OPSS Aesthetics department has, over the years, achieved acclaim and acknowledgement for the quality of its Visual Art programme. First and foremost, the department has consistently achieved stellar results for the GCE “O” Level examinations since the pioneer batch of students took their exams in 2002. For almost every year of examinations, our Art students have performed “Above Expectation” according to the PRISM analysis. The school was conferred the Applied Learning Programme (ALP-Visual Arts) status in 2015 and the Enhanced Art Programme (EAP) status in 2016 by the Ministry of Education. OPSS students can take advantage of the extra opportunities that these programmes offer, like the annual Incubation Lab project (ILEAP) that is organised every November for EAP students.
In addition, OPSS Art students do well beyond the classroom too. At the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Art & Crafts Exhibition, our students consistently win in the “Honourable Mention” category, the highest level of achievement for the competition. OPSS has built a strong reputation for the quality of their students’ art pieces and design work and this quality is recognised within the larger Art Education fraternity in Singapore. For instance, various student art pieces have been selected by MOE HQ to be presented by our political leaders to foreign dignitaries. Also, our students are actively involved in using their Art skills to improve the community by using Arts & Crafts to raise funds for the less fortunate.
Furthermore, OPSS Art teachers are experienced and have annually shared their expertise at various professional platforms nationwide. All these achievements bear compelling testimony to the strength and robustness of the school’s Art programme and to the quality and professionalism of its Art teachers.
