F1 Challange @ HCI
The Car Design Challenge, organised by Hwa Chong Institution and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, seeks to inspire students in creative thinking and the real-life application of STEM knowledge and skills. Participants are tasked with designing a stable, aerodynamically sound car capable of racing at high speeds. The model cars are subjected to wind tunnel tests and a derby race. Additionally, participants must present their design process and concepts to a panel of judges and appeal to the public to support their designs. Our OPSS representatives for the competition are:
The team clinched a merit award for the F1 challenge, which earned them an exclusive invitation to the prestigious Formula One Sky Suite. They enjoyed an exciting day at the F1 Academy, watched the practice race, and indulged in high tea—all while gaining insight into the thrilling world of Formula 1 from behind the scenes.
National Financial Literacy Challenge
National Financial Literacy Challenge is jointly organised by the East Zone Networked Learning Community (NLC) for POA and the CPF Board, with support from the CPDD Commerce Unit. This challenge allows students to observe the relevance between POA and Financial Literacy, to apply POA knowledge in the context of Financial Literacy, to learn key Financial Literacy concepts, and to appreciate the importance of planning ahead.
Maths Challenge 2024
The Ngee Ann Polytechnic Mathematics Challenge is an annual competition where students from various secondary schools were invited to compete in their Mathematics problem-solving skills given various contexts. Participants needs to exercise good teamwork and critical thinking when they approach the scenarios given.
International Mathematical Modelling Challenge
IM²C (International Mathematical Modelling Challenge) is an international competition on mathematical modelling. The purpose of the IM²C is to promote the teaching of mathematical modelling and applications at all educational levels for all students. It is based on the firm belief that students and teachers need to experience the power of mathematics to help better understand, analyze and solve real world problems outside of mathematics itself – and to do so in realistic contexts.
Science Olympiad
Olympiad competitions form part of the Science Department's LoS IV programmes. The aim is to nurture exceptional talent, challenge high achievers, and foster scientific curiosity. Students undergo specialised training sessions to prepare them for these competitions. These programmes provide intellectually stimulating content beyond the standard curriculum, enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Additionally, such initiatives help build students' confidence, promote STEM education, and inspire future careers in scientific fields.
Science Centre Research & Development Experience Programme
The primary objectives of this programme are to expose students to real-world applications of scientific principles and to provide them with hands-on experience in high-level experimentation, design, prototyping, and data analysis. This initiative enhances students' practical skills and fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in a research environment.
IgnITE Skills Challenge Finals - AirITE Adventure Awaits!
The ignITE Skills Challenge (ignITE) is an annual national-level competition organised by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) with support from the Ministry of Education. The challenges are designed to make learning engaging through fun and challenging tasks.
