The LLP-CYL programme in the school is coined as the Community OutReach Education (CORE) programme. The four year programme aims to equip students with the necessary project management and leadership skills through workshops, learning journeys and experiential learning projects in collaboration with community partners. The theoretical underpinnings adopted include the Student Leadership Practices by Kouzes and Posner and the Design Thinking Process for Service Learning.
Our vision is for our students to become youth leaders in the Khatib area who are actively engaged in and making a positive impact in the community. The student’s efforts will be rewarded through the attainment of NYAA (Silver) Award and higher achievement in the Leadership domain and Service domain under the LEAPS system. The knowledge, skills and experience gained through the programme will become invaluable for articulation to higher institutions, applications for scholarships and direct admissions.
The OPSS CORE is closely aligned to our school vision and mission. We envision our students to be persons of influence, with the necessary competencies and commitment to effect a positive change in the community. We adopt a holistic, whole-school approach to bring out the best in our students. We aim to develop students with good character, who are active volunteers and proud to be Singaporean.
At Tier 1 level, all students develop basic leadership skills and learn to work in a team through workshops, camps and engagement in VIA projects. They will At Tier 2, students who demonstrate passion and tenacity for community causes are selected to further develop their leadership qualities. They will be trained in project management, design thinking and facilitation skills. They are guided by mentors and empowered to lead the rest of the student body in community projects. Students are excited through the CORE programme and at Tier 3, become youth leaders in the community.
